UPDATE: BILLY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!!
MEET BILLY. He’s four months old, affectionate, trusting, beautiful, and tender.
BILLY was bred by someone in Los Angeles County. No one wanted to buy him because he “walked funny.” The veterinarian quoted the breeder thousands of dollars to run diagnostic tests and then suggested he be euthanized if the breeder couldn’t afford the bill. To make a very long story short, BILLY ultimately made his way to rescue. (Thank you Rachel for the assist!!! )
How incredibly sad that BILLY’s condition was avoidable had his breeder known there was a simple DNA test for spinal dysraphism (SD) and was educated enough to make breeding decisions accordingly.
Fortunately for BILLY, SD is not a death sentence, and for the lucky family who gets to bring him home, they will have many many years of joy and laughter with him.
Our hooligans are showing BILLY tonight what it means to be an indoor dog. Couches, pillows and beds, oh my!!! Hopefully the coconut oil treatment he’s getting will heal him of the elbow callouses he already has from doing time on LA concrete.
More tomorrow. Tonight, we snuggle. - Kim, Billy’s Foster Mom
