Fawn Doberman

Koby

January 28, 2020 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

MEET KOBY.

He’s young. He’s not socialized. Everything frightens him. But he’s a good boy, and he’ll be looking for the right home in the weeks to come, after we get to know him, get him current on vaccinations, and have him neutered.

Thank you Kim in San Diego for fostering this kiddo!!!

Demodectic Mange on Charlie

January 23, 2020 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

2020-246 is now “CHARLIE.” ❤️

Background: Found by Good Samaritans on Sunday, January 19th in Hesperia (cross streets Main and Peach). Suspected Weimaraner; turned over to CalWEAR on Monday, January 20th.

Initial assessment: Female dog appears to be a fawn Doberman. Age unknown but suspected very young (less than 12 months old) based on dental condition and feet to body ratio. Ears are uncropped; tail docked to standard Doberman length. Very apparent tan markings. Extreme case of mange, variety unknown.

Medical evaluation: Skin scraping and exfoliative cytology yielded juvenile Demodectic Mange (not contagious!). Dog also has secondary bacterial and yeast infections. Given Bravecto. On 14 days of Clavacillin 375mg and has 5 days of Deramaxx chews. Also given medicated bath and Miconahex + Triz shampoo for take-home twice weekly baths. Heart murmur found; grade unknown. Unknown if spayed. Not microchipped. Total cost: $458.96. A big shout out to TEHACHAPI VETERINARY HOSPITAL for your excellent care!!!!! ❤️

Hesperia Animal Services: Contacted by CalWEAR and is aware of the dog. CalWEAR has been authorized to keep on “citizen hold” for two weeks while we collectively try to locate the owner. If no owner comes forward, dog will remain in CalWEAR custody until turned over to Doberman Rescue or adopted by vetted home.

Prognosis and outlook: VERY GOOD

Temperament and personality: Sweet and kind (likes to give kisses)

Current status: Available for adoption once healthy, current on vaccinations, cleared of hold window, and spayed. 🥰

Transport Request for Temecula, CA

January 23, 2020 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

3:00 pm UPDATE: HELP FOUND!!!!

————

CALWEAR IS IN URGENT NEED of a pickup in Temecula around 5:30 PM this afternoon for a male puppy. He’s either a Weimaraner with tan markings or a fawn Doberman. (The third one on our radar THIS WEEK.)

This is marked urgent because there’s no telling what the owner will do with him tonight if we can’t get to him.

Is anyone available to pickup and foster today from Temecula? Alternatively, the owner can get him to Riverside around 7:30 PM, but then he’ll need to find a foster home from Riverside tonight.

In absence of a foster home, I can take him as a last resort tonight, but I don’t get out of work in Tehachapi (2.5 hours northeast of LA) until 6:30 PM, but I can meet whoever has him in the San Bernardino area around 9:00 PM. I also have a puppy with SEVERE MANGE at my house right now, so I’m not the best candidate for bringing another dog onto the property, but segregation at my house is better than this dog ending up at the shelter tonight.

Please reply if you can help. Feel free to also text me at the number below.

Thanks!

– Kim

Ramsey

LOOKING FOR A GRAY DOG WITH PIECES OF FLAIR?! 🎉

Meet our youngest boy. Barely clocking in at a year old, this fella came to us from a Good Samaritan who took care of him (and his pit bull “brother”) after the family moved away, leaving both dogs in the backyard without food, water, or shelter. 😔

The Good Samaritan believed him to be a Weimaraner, but upon physical evaluation at intake, we actually determined that he’s a Fawn Doberman. We suppose he could also be a Weimaraner with dobe marks, or tan points. (And CalWEAR has had a few of those!) But…does it matter?! We didn’t have time to waffle on whether or not he was a Weim; he needed help so we just took him in.

This gem of a dog is now safely tucked into foster care. His current mamma Taylore has already gotten some weight on him and enrolled him in basic obedience classes. 😊

Anyone out there want to meet this sweet dude?! Email us at hello@CalWEAR.org. ❤️
