On Monday, March 2nd at 11:00 AM, CalWEAR volunteer Kamie went to the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter to exit A5354345, who staff later named “Adina.”
Adina was brought in as a stray. She was one half of a bonded Weimaraner pair, waiting on the side of the road with her other half, who was found deceased after being hit by a car.
Scared, lost, confused, and in mourning, Adina shut down at the shelter. Exam notes on February 20th indicated that “dog was nervous, struggled, and tried to jump/run.” Fortunately, they also indicated that “no aggression was noted.”
Over the next week, Adina was put on HOLD status so she could be evaluated, evaluated, and evaluated again. When enough time had gone by, and no owner had come forward, Adina was spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready for pickup. The shelter made it very clear to us that Adina was to go to a home with no other dogs, and no children.
It didn’t take long for Adina to come out of her shell. The first order of business was to CHANGE HER NAME.
CalWEAR has a policy that the first volunteer to come in contact with a stray dog gets to name it. So…
Introducing SHELBY!!!!!!!
Per Kamie, Shelby is a runner, athletic, and has an incredible nose. Honey Nut Cheerios, tortilla chips, and bananas were all detected immediately from inside Kamie’s purse. She’s also a good passenger; SHELBY curled up and put herself to sleep the moment she laid down.
Per Kim, Shelby’s current foster mom, this girl LOVES TO ROLL in the grass!!! And she’s insanely beautiful. Gray with a light brush of tan marks; you can see a faint “mark of the hound” on her when she’s standing in the sun.
PLEASE NOTE:
CalWEAR already has multiple applications on file from families who may be interested in meeting with Shelby. Those families were notified of Shelby’s arrival earlier today. We’ll post here in a few days if it appears Shelby still needs an adoptive home. Thank you in advance for your interest!!!
Shelby is located in Tehachapi, CA.
