Meet CalWEAR’s First Piebald Weimaraner

October 19, 2017 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

MEET LIESEL!!!

Otherwise known as… The unicorn of Weimaraners. ❤️

Liesel was born on November 24, 2015 in Westminster, CA. Her parents were both gray dogs, but Liesel herself was “piebald.” (Here’s a link to read more information about the mystery of piebald Weimaraners: https://justweimaraners.com/piebald-weimaraner/.)

As a puppy, Liesel was sold on Craigslist to a family in Orange County who had a German Shorthaired Pointer. Unfortunately, it was discovered after bringing Liesel home that she was fearful of other dogs and therefore, at times, aggressive with them.

In her previous owner’s own words, “She is a super sweet loving dog. The reason we are relinquishing her is because she has fear-based aggression towards other dogs and we do not have the resources or knowledge to train her and rehabilitate her. We are devastated we have to do this as we really love her a lot but we know she will be happier at the end with someone who can rehabilitate her.”

Liesel is healthy, housebroken, spayed, and up to date on all of her shots. She does very well with people, and also dogs that are friendly and don’t get into her face. Interested in meeting Liesel?! Please contact us at hello@CalWEAR.org to meet her.

Thank you!!!

Edited to add: These photos were taken in September 2017. Liesel’s foster mom put her on a diet and she has since lost a few pounds. 😉👍

Beth Worrell Did my girls meet her?
Beth Worrell
Yes, She played with your girls with no problems.
Hunter Richardson
these are 100% diluted GSP/Weim crosses. Are you people serious? “Unicorn” should be replaced with “Mongrel”

Donovan Thurman
It’s a genetic abnormality, it happens in a lot of different breeds.
California Weimaraner Education and Rescue
Yes. Really. It happens. Article about the mutation here: https://justweimaraners.com/piebald-weimaraner/
Hunter Richardson
A genetic diversity caused by a mutation from crossbreeding generations ago.

Janie Webb
Just read this article & it did not mention genetic testing of the grandparents of a piebald. When I was in vet tech school, I was told that the gparents had more to do with the genetic make up of the puppies than the actual parents. I think she’s BEAUTIFUL.
Judy Dill
I’ve not seen genetic testing for piebald
Ann Petrunak
She is beautiful.

Hunter Richardson, you’re the mongrel.

Lee Beck
Not that I’m against “mongrels” as i have a little black dog that’s bits n pieces of god knows what and he’s the best. It’s probably the term “mongrel” i don’t like it sounds like it’s a bad thing is all. Hope this gorgeous girl finds the perfect home. If only i lived closer as i recently lost my 14+yr old Weim boy who for his whole life was dog aggressive which as his mun was my responsibility to manage. No regrets I’d do it all again. Bless this sweet girl xoxox
Kristin Thomas
Ummm, beautiful lots of info and so tempting….I am in North County San Diego, Oceanside and lost my beautiful girl in August. Still have a 13 year old weim and a terriorist, but have been talking to the hubby about adopting another weim, she would have to fit in, but both my dogs are very sweet. I showed hubby the pics and we are interested. I am going to go fill out an application.
Trina Pollard Currence
Is she still available?
Amy Boring
OMG!!
Michael Powers
I would love to have her, if only we were ready for her…

Sarah Bessasa-Grant

California Weimaraner Education and Rescue
The world could use a few more Liesels! 😊
Laura Lou
One day, I’m gonna have a Liesel!
Cindy Trent
I think it is fascinating that each new piebald we see has very similar markings. Grey head, and white speckled body with some large spots on the lower back. This is my piebald weim. I know of three or four others with the same pattern of markings.
Natasha Spearhil
Definitely not a unicorn of Weimaraner’s don’t advertise her like that you’ll get the wrong people enquiring about her.

California Weimaraner Education and Rescue
Our adoption application is about seven pages long. 😉 Anyone who gets as far as meeting her will have to go through that process. As far as inquiries… Having so many doesn’t bother us. If one of them turns out to be the perfect home for our Liesel, then we’ve done our job! 👍
Beth Worrell
Oh, a few more bonuses: she loves the car and is good in a crate…

Ann Scarbrough
Beautiful dog ❤️❤️
Misty Dawn Dove-Gibson
Stunning!
Kate Wagner
My piebald!! ❤️
Katelyn Mae
She is beautiful!!
Lori Odend’hal Ledbetter
Oh man! I’m in Kentucky. Too far away, huh?
Ann Kvittum
What a beautiful girl with a gorgeous smile!
Louise Saunders
We live in SoCal, La Canada, CA with a 7 year old Weimaraner.
We moved from U.K. to NJ to here and Roxy travelled with us. Our Girl Roxy will need introducing gently to a new family member but I also know that she would benefit. When we got Roxy at 16 months she was totally untrained, she had never heard the word NO and she was kept in her crate 24 hours without exercise or life experience. I know that I have given her a vastly better life and she is now content.

California Weimaraner Education and Rescue
We’d love to have you meet her! Please fill out an adoption application on our website and we’ll set up a meeting. 😊

Deborah Millington Holmes
Louise… we live in North Glendale (Ranch San Rafael). Sherlock is my almost 2 year old baby. Very sweet. Few if any weim crimes. Would you be interested in a play date some time?
Louise Saunders
Deborah Millington Holmes – yes! Definitely! My current girl needs introducing gently though,if you have the patience for us, then yes, I’d love to!
Chris Tina

Diane Reymar
I love the Piebald Weim! I would take her in a heartbeat if I didn’t already have three Weims. I hope she finds a super loving home.
Myrna Solmi
There. You go Mike, one more!!!
Erin Campeau Brentz
Dustin Brentz I want Leisel!
Debe Brown Brzostowski
Oh my gosh she is gorgeous! My weimy is overweight also, how did you get her to diet?
California Weimaraner Education and Rescue
Just like people… smaller portions of food and exercise! 🙂
Jean Kusz
She is a beauty! So tempted but adding a weim to 2 weims completely changes the dynamic at out house…
Donna McQuade-Herteg
I would love to have her! I live in Southern California I have plenty of room for another dog. My problem is I have two Weims and 2 German shorthair pointer‘s already If I could intermix her that would be great!!!! She is beautiful!!!!
Erin Weim
Must be my cousin ❤️hope you find a nice family
Beth Worrell
While fostering Liesel, she has become much better with other dogs. Once she gets to know a dog, she actually initiates play. She would like to have a doggie sibling that lets her have some space. She likes little dogs!

Brenda Charlton
I was going to ask….does she definitely need to go to a home with no dogs? Or just needs the proper teachings, introducing etc etc? Is she still available?
Brenda Charlton
California Weimaraner Education and Rescue

is she still available? And are you thinking just a home w/out other dogs? I hv a rescue GSP that was beaten in last home and had to fend for herself for food etc and didn’t like people or dogs when I got her….3 years later she is the SWEETEST!! Still hv to be careful with feeding time-but other than that-a complete dream girl 💗

Beth Worrell
We think she should go to a home with another dog. Just have to introduce carefully.
Ruthie Bianco
I dealt with this with my Weim, Juno. He was very fearful of my Boxer when he first arrived and the first few months were trying, but a year and a half later, you’d never know he would be fearful of other pups and lash out. Sweetest boy in the world!! Good luck, Liesel! May your story become like my boy’s!!
Joni Ursta
Please keep us abreast of Liesel! What a beautiful girl! Thank you, Beth Worrell, for being one of the Earth Angels that love and protect these beautiful animals❤️
Glo Osorio
Still have
Sherry Ustohal
She’s beautiful
Kristin Thomas
ok, I submitted an application for adoption and/or to be a foster family to another weim in the future. Not sure we will be best fit for Liesel, but if she were interested in having two very sweet doggy siblings and coming to boot camp (we are a very fit family and all my dogs eat well and exercise lots) we are interested……my husband is already in love with her pictures🙄 Anyway, I hope this girl has a wonderful future she deserves!
Jan C. Baylor
She is beautiful!
Patricia H. Díaz
Hermosos !!!
