Here’s a feel-good story to start your weekend. Thank you DEBORAH for coordinating this effort on behalf of CalWEAR.
Hip hip hooray for Dave and HUGO!!!!!
MEET HUGH..17 years old and abandoned Male Weimaraner
His story….he was being neglected by his owners. Left in the backyard at his old age without food and water and basic Veterinary care although owners claimed they let him in at night. Animal Control stepped in and confiscated the dog after neighbors complained. VOILA! Owner comes in to shelter and claims his dog promising to take better care of him and get medical attention. Really? Now after 17 years?
Fast forward 2 weeks and the poor dog, name of HUGH is in the same, if not worse, shape as before. Owners have done NOTHING to make his life better or to comply with the AC order. He is forced to surrender Hugh to the shelter.
Now CalWEAR, the Rescue I work with, is made aware and plans to immediately get Hugh released. BUT wait!!! There is a private citizen who lives in PHOENIX, AZ who just lost his Weim of 13 years, Miley, to cancer, heart problems and other age related issues. He is in love with Hugh’s photo that he sees online. He sees that CalWEAR is stepping in to save him and emails immediately that he’d love to have him. How does he get him??
He doesn’t care about his story but wants to get him out NOW and give him a loving home. So, do we get Hugh out to Rescue with CalWEAR….or let this guy, Dave Mundy drive the 5 hours to give a permanent home to Hugh? No brainer and no question!!!!!!! We let the shelter know Dave is coming to provide a forever home, however long that might be. So, Dave Mundy drove all that way this morning and adopted Hugh straight from the shelter in Rancho Cucamonga, CA! .No questions asked…just jumped in his car and CAME!!!! 10 hours round trip.❤
So, Hugh is “home” now…for perhaps the first time in his life…Dave says that he reveled in his grass..like he’d never experienced it before! Says he loved riding the trip back in the car. He says Hugh is a SWEET WONDERFUL DOG!
So everyone….there is joy in the middle of our sadness with all that is happening. When you find it, share it! Happy endings are just that….HAPPPPPPY!!!!!
