Janet’s Got a Home

June 30, 2019 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

Normally, when CalWEAR intakes a dog, we bring them into one of the homes of our founding volunteers so we can personally assess them before they even get into a foster home. That way, if anything happens, it happens to us, and also, our fosters have more data when the dog enters their home.

Then there’s the rare occasion that a new-to-us foster family steps up to the challenge of taking a dog, sight unseen.

PALOMA and RYAN joined the CalWEAR family last night. ZOEY arrived at their house just before dusk, and we spent the first hour or so conducting proper introductions to their existing pack. First up were the cats. Then the dogs, one at a time.

In the second hour, we wandered into the backyard together just as the Escondido sky turned a beautiful shade of pink. As I watched our beautiful girl explore her yard, I caught a glimpse of a double rainbow.

Nothing says “welcome home” like a rainbow. ❤️🌈

A big THANK YOU to this young couple for committing to foster/trial-adopt Zoey, who is now JANET. I am simply blown away by their dedication to dogs, rescue (their other dogs are rescues), training, positive reinforcement techniques, patience, and understanding. You two embody the spirit of CalWEAR and we’re honored to have met you.

As for JANET, she’s probably “home,” so let’s table adoption inquiries for the time being. 😉

Despite a rough start to our long day, it ended with the most happiest of outcomes. JANET will never miss another meal, and we’re reminded that no matter how exhausting our work is sometimes, IT’S ALL WORTH IT.
