UPDATE: MIMI HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!
MEET MIMI.
MIMI is an 18 month old Weimaraner puppy who likes all adults, kids, infants, dogs, and cats. She’s also housebroken and spayed. Unfortunately, MIMI was also recently diagnosed with not one, but TWO (unrelated) illnesses.
Under the care of cardiologist Sara Johns, DVM at Sage Center in Concord, CA, MIMI was found to have a loud heart murmur and congenital heart defect called tricuspid dysplasia. In short, one of her heart valves didn’t form right when she was born and now leaks into and enlarges the right side of her heart. Separately, MIMI also has moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension, which leads to shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, exercise intolerance, weakness, and fainting.
MIMI is currently on a medication called Vetmedin (pimobendan) which helps to improve her heart function and buys her some time before her heart starts failing her. CalWEAR currently has this medication filled at Costco for approximately $75/month. She is also on a monthly insurance plan with a premium of $83 (which will stay with her).
MIMI’s conditions require that she lives near or at sea level (she CANNOT travel to or live at high elevation). A home with cooler temperatures will be very beneficial for her. MIMI also needs a home where she can play but have moderate exercise; she should not participate in strenuous activities.
MIMI is expected to live without additional complications for the next five years. Unfortunately, her doctors are not confident that she’ll make it to old age as her heart may give out before then. Please contact CalWEAR if you might be willing to consider hosting MIMI despite her special needs.
MIMI is currently fostered by Charlie in Pasadena, CA.
