Sample Page

This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:

Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.)

…or something like this:

The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.

As a new WordPress user, you should go to your dashboard to delete this page and create new pages for your content. Have fun!

Dexter

MEET DEXTER.

Dexter was taken in from a friend who could no longer take care of him, and now needs a new home with a family who has the time and resources to give him the best life.

We tried our best to give him the care he needed. I feel he needs more structure, exercise and training them we can give him at this time. He counter surfs, and gets in the trash if it’s not secured. He’s high energy and playful but we’ve never seen any dog aggression out of him. He lives with other dogs in our home and has been to dog parks and dog beaches. We have seen him have incredible prey drive with trash trucks or Amazon trucks which can be a lot to handle. He also is protective of his home with strangers like the mail man or delivery trucks. He’s never been aggressive to any guests or friends or children in the slightest even our pool guy is fine but he seems to hate delivery people. – Current Family

Dexter is not destructive. He’s crate trained, although trustworthy in the house (minus the trash situation). At night, he’s happy to sleep in a dog bed, and he’s so well potty trained he has never had an accident in the house. Dexter loves to play ball, and enjoys his ropes and tennis balls.

Dexter is great with children and other dogs, but unfortunately, we don’t think he will be good with cats or other small furry animals.

Please submit an adoption application if you would like consider having Dexter join your family. Thank you!

Blaze

MEET BLAZE.

BLAZE is a big one year old fella weighing in at 85 pounds, and needs a new home because he’s been getting into tussles with his Viszla brother (who really doesn’t appreciate his humor). Ironically, he’s great with his other brother, a little chihuahua. BLAZE’s current daytime routine is to run in and out of the house through the doggy door to stretch his legs in the yard or snooze inside the house.

When BLAZE barks, it’s deep and loud, but he’s actually a very good boy and great with the grandkids who visit him.

His parents love him deeply, but feel he would be better off in a home where he didn’t have to live with a dog he didn’t like.

BLAZE is neutered, housebroken, crate trained and up to date on his shots. He is located in Los Angeles, CA and his adoption fee is $800.

Sammi

April 14, 2021 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

If you look up the definition of “Weimaraner” in the dictionary you’d see a photo of Sammi, this guy is 100% the classic Weim – from the need to please the humans in the family to the need to be a Velcro dog and spend every minute with them (even in the bathroom).

Sammi is a happy and energetic dog, who gets so excited that his whole body shakes when his tail wags. He is house trained, crate trained, knows how to use the doggy door, and is good around bigger dogs and older children. Sammi is learning manners and basic obedience with his foster family. He currently knows: sit, stay, off, down and to wait to eat his food until he hears the “okay” command. He is learning to sit when someone comes into the house, and that counter surfing is not okay. He loves squeaky stuffed toys(but destroys them in about 1.5 minutes) and comes running at the sound of the ice dispenser. He gets along great with big dogs but doesn’t seem like he would be good around little dogs.

Sammi enjoys running around the yard playing tag with the big dogs, playing fetch with squeaky toys, and cuddling on the couch with his humans.

He would be best suited for a home without young children or small dogs, and with a family that is willing to continue to work with him on obedience training.

Sammi is located in Palm Desert, CA and his adoption fee is $800.

Soul

UPDATE: SOUL HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!!!

MEET SOUL.

Soul’s family found him on Craigslist and brought him home at the age of six months. Unfortunately, Soul hadn’t been properly socialized and desensitied to his surrounding environment so as he grew, he became fearful and reactive when put into unfamiliar situations. At home, Soul was great with his family, including kids and dog housemates, but incoming guests were always treated with vocal caution.

After one too many incidents of Soul lashing out at visitors, his family felt it was safer for everyone if Soul was moved to a home who a) had more time than they did to dedicate to basic obedience training, and b) had all the patience in the world to help him overcome his fears. (Nobody knows what his first six months was like.)

Soul is neutered and up to date on his rabies vaccination. Although thriving in foster care where he is sweet, friendly, bouncy, and LOVES to play fetch, it is our hope that Soul can find a quiet, Weimaraner-experienced adult only home with the bandwidth to take care of him.

Name: Soul

Gender: Male/neutered

Color: Gray

Age: 17 months

Location: Lancaster, CA

Adoption Fee: $600

Good with Strangers: No

Good with Kids: No

Good with Dogs: Yes

Good with Cats: No

CalWEAR Needs Help

March 11, 2021 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

Good Morning and HAPPY Thursday!

In spite of CalWear’s best intentions it seems we just don’t get ahead, Angel, our giant blue boy who was hit by a car and left with broken hip, ended up in VCA as urgent case last night due to incision falling apart. Our foster was deeply concerned about staples “falling out as he was walking” and holes opening up. It was not cheap..almost $700 added to his $4000 bill that we’re still trying to catch up on. He had to have incision repair surgery. We hate asking, and wouldn’t, but if any of you can dig deep and help donate to his bill we would be forever indebted to you. As always, there are easy ways to help below:

With much love and gratitude!

UPDATE: ANGEL HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!!!

MEET ANGEL. Angel was picked up by LA County Animal Control/Baldwin Park Campus with a dislocated hip, likely due to being hit by a car. With no one coming to claim him, CalWEAR busted him out and immediately got him into our veterinarian for FHO surgery.

Now that it’s been a few weeks and Angel has been recovering nicely, it’s time to find him a GREAT new home. Interested in Angel?! Send us a message.

Duke

March 7, 2021 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

DUKE is a 10 year old boy who recently busted out of the Riverside Animal Shelter. His intakes notes are as follows:

A1611952 is currently at our Riverside main campus and flagged for medical and coded status yellow. Medical notes indicate that this dog is overall geriatric at 10 years old. We treating this dog for a double ear infection. Multiple masses, dental tartar, underweight and possibly arthritic. Lab work is highly recommended for senior screening. Vet staff noted dog was friendly when examining. Thank you!

3/3/2021 Update from Greg/Foster: He was seen for his ears and for his rabies shot yesterday.  They would not administer a rabies vaccine because his labs came back showing high/ elevated kidney values as well as very low platelets. Ears were badly infected but improving. He’s doing much better than when he came here initially but I think we have a way to go before he is ready for adoption.

Kaia

March 7, 2021 //  by Kim//  2 Comments

UPDATE: KAIA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!!!

MEET KAIA.

Kaia is 9 years old and currently in foster care because her family came upon tough circumstances:

We have come to a cross roads in life. We recently had a baby, my husband lost his job, and we now have to move back east. We cannot afford a home and space that would allow for a Weimaraner in New York (and they rarely allow large dogs). Furthermore, she has a cyst on her that we cannot afford to remove. We just cannot keep up with the costs, time management, or space that is required.

About the cyst. After a few thousand dollars, Kaia’s cyst was successfully removed while under our care so now we’re ready to find her an adoptive home!!!

A few notes about Kaia from her former owners:

  • She is prone to allergies in her large ears and can get ear infections if they aren’t cleaned weekly.
  • She sleeps at night in a crate, but since we are moving we sold it and she sleeps on the carpet with a blanket next to our bed.
  • She goes for a long walk or run once a day and short walks for potty. She is best off leash at the beach, park, or trails.
  • She is reliably housebroken. She has only gone to the bathroom when locked inside a room by accident once!
  • She is great on a leash that has a tightening collar, otherwise, she will pull.
  • She does not like toys unless another dog wants it. She will play with a rope but that’s it!
  • She is a fantastic snuggler and wants to be touched always. She will lay by your feet, roll on her back for belly rubs, and if you allow, she’ll cuddle like a human.
  • She almost completely ignores people and prefers smelling while on the leash. She will bark at the occasional dog, but it’s random. She is not aggressive when she barks but rather bossy and talkative.
  • She has lived with three cats and snuggled with all of them. My parents kept her for a month when our baby was first born and they have a weimaraner. Although they got along like sister, two weims are too much for my parents.
  • She whines if she is left outside too long. She barks at new sounds and takes time to adjust to new places. Everytime we have moved (7 times with her) she takes a few weeks to get used to neighbors voices, other neighbor dogs, etc. She may also whine if she sees another pet getting attention until you notice her.
  • We love her. My husband has had her since she was 8 weeks old. But his life has changed and we are not financially stable enough to keep her. We are going to stay with family for a short time and they do not want a dog on their hardwood floors. We just keep being presented with challenges, and this is one we cannot keep up with.

Chloe and Bowie

March 3, 2021 //  by Kim//  3 Comments

UPDATE: CHLOE AND BOWIE HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chloe and Bowie are a bonded pair of Weimaraners who need a new home because their father recently and unexpectedly passed away. The below is a message from their caretaking family:

Chloe is 6-7 years old. She’s very sweet natured but she takes a while to warm up to new people – she’ll bark for a bit until you persevere with a treat. She loves to snuggle on the couch. We believe Chloe was puppy farmed and spent a lot of time in her crate. She doesn’t pull on the leash but really doesn’t understand what being on a leash is all about because she was never trained.

Bowie was born in August 2016 so he’s 4 and a half. He was neutered after he turned 2, and he’s retained some of the alpha male testosterone. He’s also very sweet but much more rambunctious than Chloe – he greets newcomers warmly (terrible guard dog!) with lots of licks and will jump up to greet people. He did learn how to heel at puppy training school but Chris didn’t persevere with it so he’s really hard work on a leash.

Bowie is strong and full of energy. He loves to run in the desert. Chloe keeps up but is definitely the follower not the leader.

They play really nicely together and keep each other company.

Both are crate trained and spend the night in their crates.

Sasha

March 3, 2021 //  by Kim//  3 Comments

UPDATE: SASHA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!!!

MEET SASHA!

She is a little over one year old and the sweetest, calmest, and easiest-going house guest you could meet! She may not even leave her foster home with as sweet as she is! 💖
Sasha responds to commands, is crate trained (but loves a bed on the floor), loves giving gentle kisses, enjoys treats, walks (even though she’s learning to be a lady on the leash), sitting and watching people, and wagging her tail when she’s complimented.
Sasha is great with other dogs and with younger children.

Edited to add: Interested in Sasha?! CalWEAR will be reaching out to families who have applications on file with us this week. If you haven’t already, get your adoption application in ASAP. Thank you!
