Dozer

February 15, 2022 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

MEET DOZER. At age 11, Dozer is still active and loves her walks. She is a bit cranky in her old age so is best without children in the home even though she was raised with kids. She has had many dogs around her but loves being an only child. If your passion is companionship and regular short distance walks with cuddling on the side, this girl is for you! Here is what her foster in Wrightwood (San Bernardino) has to say about her:

Dozer is doing wonderfully well… Such a very nice girl! Excellent watch dog; still indifferent to my own two plus a foster, but zero aggression except a warning bark when one of them comes right next to her crate. I’m crating her ONLY when she’s in the same room with the others… It’s too small a space for me to feel comfortable letting them all be together, otherwise, for the short time she’s with me. She does very well in it. Dozer ignores the other dogs when pottying in the yard. She has stopped looking like she’s searching for the relinquishing family. She is only is unhappy when I leave the room (barks for me to come back). Has absolutely no issues when she’s out with me in other parts of the house or yard. Would much rather be loose than crated… like most dogs. Eating well, doesn’t resist going into the crate. Getting friendlier with me- tail wagging, coming close to be pet. I’m strongly guessing she’d be fine loose in a home, especially after getting used to a new routine…she has excellent manners. But for the short remaining time, I’ll just experiment briefly, once, when I have my tax appointment in 2 days: choosing to leave her to have the run of the downstairs, rather than be stressed and miserable in the crate once I leave. Normally it’s not something I ever do with a new foster, but rather a gut reaction with this particular old lady. 🙂

Please fill out an adoption questionnaire through the website if you’d like to meet Dozer!

Tucker

February 15, 2022 //  by Kim//  7 Comments

MEET TUCKER. Tucker is a big friendly boy and loves to go on walks, play fetch (and not give the ball back), chew on bones, and be with people. He also knows basic commands (like paw, come and sit). We’re still working on down and stay. He’s great with dogs, big and small. He’s also very well mannered and does NOT exhibit any traits of separation anxiety. In foster care, Tucker has been great with everyone in the house, including two adults and a boatload of Weimaraners (all ages and sizes). His only downfall, unfortunately, is that he has a history of resource guarding people, and will therefore be most successful in a home where his new people are experienced enough to help him get past the resource guarding, or in a home with one person so the problem isn’t an issue.

Tucker is three years old, neutered, housebroken, and up to date on vaccinations. Please fill out an adoption questionnaire if you’d like to meet Tucker. He is currently located in Tehachapi, CA.

Stevie

February 15, 2022 //  by Kim//  2 Comments

Stevie is a delight and quite the gorgeous Diva. She just turned 6! Stevie has grown up with other dogs and older, taller than her children. We don’t know how she would be with toddlers. She is happy and regal. She is the victim of a divorce. Her human mom has had to move out of state and is trying to cope with the rehoming of the family’s three dogs. Stevie is now perplexed at why she is being locked outside away from all she knows and loves, or in the bedroom only able to hear the sounds of life and laughter. Her mom realizes this is no life for an active Weimaraner so has taken the sad step to find her a home where she can thrive once again. Never abused or neglected, Stevie is confused and not understanding what is going on. She will be adopted to the most qualified adopter who is the best match for her. She is quite healthy with no known health issues. She will be vaccinated and Vetted. Can she come live with you? Must be within the Socal adoption area. She is currently in the Cathedral City area of California near Palm Springs. Fill out an adoption questionnaire here.

Nala

February 2, 2022 //  by Kim//  1 Comment

MEET NALA!!!! Through no fault of her own, Nala has once again come up for adoption. Nala’s owner, who adopted her from CalWEAR last October, has come into some debilitating Medical issues. Poor Nala has resorted to laying by owners side not getting out and enjoying the fresh air. Nala is cuddly and friendly. She’s a senior at the age of 9 but has a lot of life left in her! She loves to go on walks but doesn’t need to go far. She has a bit of arthritis as we all do as we age. Nala would love to join a family or single person who can get her out to put her nose in the air and start loving life again. Her owner knew Nala needed more so called us for help. It is a pretty urgent situation. The owner will need to be hospitalized. Does anyone have room for her? Her adoption fee will be waived to the right home. We just want this girl to experience life as she deserves. Other than the arthritis Nala does have worn teeth from being a stray initially when we got her and a few age related lumps and bumps. PLEASE submit an adoption questionnaire and we will reach out to you!

Willow

February 2, 2022 //  by Kim//  4 Comments

Update: Willow’s adoption is pending.

Four year old WILLOW is a beautiful, happy, clingy, playful girl who was given to her previous family by a co-worker. She lived with large and small dogs and children and did very well but it was too much for them to handle. They thought Willow was being deprived having to keep her in the backyard with hardly any interaction or exercise so think another home would be best for her. They left her outdoors and then were surprised when she wanted to dig to keep herself busy. As with all Weims, she wants to be with her family and get out for walks or runs. She is such a sweet girl and deserves to be indoors with all four paws up to the ceiling in a soft cozy dog bed. Willow is intact and will need spayed before adoption. If you’re interested in meeting Willow, please submit an adoption questionnaire and we’ll be in touch!

Zeke

January 25, 2022 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

UPDATE: ZEKE HAS FOUND A HOME!!!!

MEET ZEKE. Zeke is the BESTEST boy, so we need to find him the BEST PALLIATIVE home.

ZEKE came to CalWEAR as a stray with a couple of masses on his body and walking on three legs. He has elbow dysplasia not letting him walk on his right front leg. This does not affect his mobility or bother him at all. We had his largest mass removed and biopsy showed cancer. Not the good kind… the kind where you will have to say goodbye sooner rather than later. We would love to make the rest of Zeke’s life the best he’s known. What we need: A home where Zeke can be Zeke. He loves to cuddle on the couch. He is NOT real active…he is the most laid back boy you’ll know. VERY easy keeper. He loves kids, other dogs and has been known to stare down and tolerate a cat. He has shown no signs of being ill. He eats well and all is well on the other end too. We don’t know how much time he has but he deserves to have a peaceful happy life. We think he is around 7 and his current foster LOVES him but it is time to make room for another dog in need and let Zeke go to a comfy home with someone to love him, and him alone. He is in a home right now where he shares attention with 12 other dogs! ANYONE want to give this boy a LOVIONG ‘end of days’? Rescue will provide his needs and Vet Care. Please submit a foster questionnaire and contact Kim Burnell at 949-278-2981 if you have ANY interest in him at all.

Dusty

January 18, 2022 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

DUSTY came to CalWEAR as a stray so unfortunately, we don’t really know where she came from. What we do know, is that someone previously used an electronic collar on her because she has burn marks on her throat.

We also know that Dusty is young (probably about 2-3 years of age) and has had a litter of puppies. She doesn’t seem to have separation anxiety, is good in a crate, and good with other dogs. Under CalWEAR’s care, Dusty has been spayed and is up to date on shots.

When comfortable, Dusty is exuberant and has a lot of energy. She’s also very affectionate and loves sitting in someone’s lap. Unfortunately, it’s quite evident that Dusty was not well socialized in her formative months because she lacks basic manners and bite inhibition. This has resulted in Dusty being very mouthy and bitey; She loves to nibble at people and other animals.

When not comfortable, Dusty doesn’t know how to properly communicate with people around her, and unfortunately, now has a record of resorting to using her mouth and biting her human caretakers (so far, nothing too serious). Anyone interested in adopting Dusty must understand that she is a true rescue; she will only thrive if she gets a chance to be placed in an experienced, patient, and loving home (with no children) that understands her needs and isn’t afraid of her previous bite history.

To help Dusty have the greatest chance of success in her new home, 10 hours of professional dog training with an emphasis on behavioral modification will be donated to Dusty’s adoptive family. Training will include:

  • Basic manners
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Desensitization
  • Redirection
  • Counter-conditioning
  • Gamed-based play

If you’d like to meet Dusty she is fostered in the Glendora, CA area. Please submit an adoption application through our website so we can contact you. She’s a gorgeous girl!

Grady

December 30, 2021 //  by Kim//  1 Comment

GRADY is a loving boy who has had a really bad start at life. He was given to current owner as ‘RENT’ payment as a puppy from a backyard breeder breeding on current owners property. Since then he has been tied to a chain in a backyard (because he WILL chase chickens) then sleeping in a greenhouse at night. His current owner is in his high 80’s and can’t do much with him as far as training or exercise. Grady is definitely a diamond in the rough who needs a committed owner to help work out the kins and get him the manners required to be indoors. He deserves a soft couch with warm cozy blankets. Grady has lived around owners grand children and adores playing with them. He has other resident dogs that he would love to play with if he could get off of his chain. He greets people by joyfully jumping on them because of the new attention. He is adorable, friendly and happy in spite of his current living conditions. Can YOU give him the home he deserves? He is just a baby at 2 1/2 years old. PLEASE DO NOT INQUIRE ABOUT HIM WITHOUT AN APPLICVATION ON FILE. www.calwear.org/adopt/ DISCLOSURE: PHOTO IS STOCK PHOTO. Elderly owner does NOT know how to get pictures to us. The black and white photo found on his med records look exactly like this dog.

Dozer

November 18, 2021 //  by Kim//  2 Comments

Update – Dozer has been adopted!!!

Meet DOZER!!! There is nothing better than the activity and love of a Weim puppy. For Dozer, he is even MORE endearing with a lovely derpy look from a slight mild cleft palate. NOT even noticeable and has no effect on him…just makes him even more adorable. Dozer loves soft squeaky toys, knows most commands and his potty and crate trained. He grew up with two toddlers who he adored and a cat he was mostly curious about. His family relocated due to deployment and love him dearly. He is a very gentle and kind puppy who just needs a bit more training and patience from someone who is familiar with their breed. And lots of love and a king size bed for him to take up. PLEASE fill out and have an adoption application on file PRIOR to contacting us about Dozer. Dozer is NOT neutered because of his age and will come with a neuter contract.

Rigby

November 16, 2021 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

UPDATE: RIGBY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!

Rigby is a five year old male Weimaraner and was found as a stray in the High Desert area of California. His current housing is temporary as we look for a foster or an adopter for him. Every avenue has been exhausted and no known owner has come to claim him. He is sweet and good with other dogs and kids. He is unaltered so will need to be neutered. Right now we need to get to know him so are mostly looking for a foster to adopt situation to prevent him from ending up in a shelter. He HAS been listed on shelter found board for over a week. If you are interested in helping us to help him please fill out our foster application at www.calwear.org/foster/. Rigby is currently located in Apple Valley, CA.

Dusty

November 16, 2021 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

Update: Dusty has been adopted!!!!

Dusty came to us as a stray and is estimated to be around 3-4 years old. She had an obvious recent litter of pups so we are need of spaying her. It appeared that she was wearing some sort of shock collar at one point because of a burn mark at her throat. Dusty is exuberant, high energy at first, calming down to be loving and a true ‘lap dog’. She lacks dome manners but has HUGE potential. Introductions into her foster home of four other dogs went well. She barely notices them, then suddenly wants to play. Her perfect home will have a family… she loves kids …and other dogs with lots of activity to keep her busy. She has the cutest ‘bounce’ to her step and would love to go on walks and follow her person wherever they go. If you’d like to meet Dusty she is fostered in the Riverside, CA area. Please be sure to have an adoption application on file at www.calwear.org/adopt/. She’s a gorgeous girl!

Manolo

November 12, 2021 //  by Kim//  2 Comments

UPDATE: Manolo/Manny has been adopted!

GORGEOUSLY delicious, Manny’s family is being deployed and can’t go with them. He is a knock out beautiful 7 year old Blue boy who is so sweet. He is housetrained and crate trained. Manny’s perfect home might have a SPHINX cat (or any cat)..he grew up with them. He would do best with older kids as hyper activity with the wee ones gets him excited and he might knock them down. He will initially pull on leash because he LOVES his walks but calms down after a couple minutes. He loves tug-of-war, squeaky toys and large yummy chew bones. He does really well with small dogs but large dogs would have to be on the submissive side. Manny is unaltered as family had planned on breeding him because he is AKC. He will come neutered or with a neuter contract. Since Manny’s dad is military, he exercised him regularly so he is in great physical shape and people mistake him for just a couple years old. If you think he might be a good match in your home, and you are interested in adopting him, PLEASE fill out the adoption application to be considered as an adoptive home for Manny. THIS BOY WILL NOT LAST!!!!!
