Remington

June 8, 2017 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

MEET REMINGTON. Remington is a jerk.

Not really. He’s a 7-month old PUPPY, and puppies require an extraordinary amount of time, attention, exercise, training, and consistency.

He didn’t get a lot of that before… Which is he how he ended up in rescue.

This isn’t his fault. His breeder should have done a better job screening for puppy homes, and his owner should have hired a mid-day dog walker so he wasn’t sitting in his crate for 12+ hours/day. Basic obedience classes, and lots of exercise would also have been helpful so he didn’t eat the brand new sofa.

If you’re the kind of person who is EXPERIENCED in the Weimaraner breed, and can make a firm commitment to providing this boy with time, attention, exercise, training, and consistency, shoot us an application at www.CalWEAR.org. We’d love to hear from you. ❤️

Nala

March 19, 2017 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

UPDATE 3/24/2017:

NALA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

March 19, 2017:

“RIVERSIDE, CA COMING IN!!! Meet Nala…really nice mellow 3 year old Weimaraner Breeder dog who is no longer useful anymore. 🙁 She still has sagging nipples from last litter who are a whopping 4 months old. Nala is covered in feces, dirt and fleas. She stood still while being bathed…probably the first in her life. I know she has never slept indoors. The family didn’t even have a bed or blanket to send with her..and not one Vet record after having litters of puppies being sold for $800. She will be vetted and spayed and then will be up for a brand new loving home!!! Anyone have a soft spot for her to land on!?? She was raised with kids and other dogs. Introduction to my five Weims went much better than I could have hoped. She is a little timid and rolls over if approached as if she will be beaten. Well…I got news for her…if she rolls over for us she will get nothing but belly rubs!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️” – Deborah Thompson, Nala’s Foster Mommy

Taylor’s Family Decides to Keep Her

January 22, 2017 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

January 22, 2017:

To the friends of CalWEAR who GRACIOUSLY offered your hearts and home to Taylor (the 11 year old Weim who needed a new home), our love and gratitude. For now, rest easy knowing that this one gets to stay “home,” after all. Here’s a message from her family.

My family has been in tears since receiving your email yesterday. As soon as the reality set-in regarding the potential foster outlet, we realized we simply cannot bring ourselves to surrender our sweet dog. As trying and as difficult as our life may be right now, we are going to continue making the most of our current situation so that we can keep our family whole.

My sincerest apologies for the time and effort we drew from you, your kind and loving organization, resources and network. If I may ask that you kindly remove all solicitations/information regarding Taylor from your site(s), we would be most appreciative.

Thank you for all that you do to help support families of Weimeraners and for your willingness to help our family during this difficult time, even if the end result was simply helping us come to the realization we cannot break-up our family!

January 15, 2017 Update # 2:

THANK YOU for the overwhelming support and commitment to foster or adopt Miss Taylor!! We are now waiting for Taylor’s owners to get back to us with a surrender date and time. If you’ve connected with us, we think we’ve replied back. 🙂 More to follow. With love and gratitude, Team CalWEAR. ❤️

January15, 2017 Update#1:
PLEA FOR FOSTER CARE:
CalWEAR has received the following message from the family of an 11-year old Weimaraner named Taylor. Taylor is housebroken, crate trained, good with people and other dogs. Cats are unknown. Please holler if you can provide this girl foster care on behalf of CalWEAR. We’re otherwise AT CAPACITY. Thanks! – Team CalWEAR
Why are you relinquishing this dog? “We are spread too thin with 2-kids, 2-working parents and a dog — we realize she is not living the life she deserves. As hard as it is to come to the decision to surrender her to another loving family, we know she will be getting more time, love and attention then we are able to provide at this time in our lives. Quite honestly, it is not fair to her and we are trying to do the right thing.”

What does the new family need to know? “Honestly, she is the best dog we have ever had. She is very obedient, loves to please, has a very loving and gentle nature about her. We have NEVER had a single issue with her chewing something she wasn’t supposed to, etc. She will on occasion bark (1-2 times) at the UPS/FedEx when they come to the house to drop off a package or if there is a lizard or something hanging out in her dog run. But otherwise, I would not consider her a “barker.” This decision is with a heavy heart, but we hate seeing her neglected and would love nothing more than to know she is getting as much love and attention as she deserves. She is a sweetheart, and we are trying to do everything we can to ensure she is getting more in her life than we can provide to her — which includes frequent walks, dog park trips, play time at home, etc.”

Rymer

January 11, 2017 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

11:00 AM update: Our volunteer arrived at the shelter only to find out that the Weim has been committed to another rescue; they won’t tell us who it is. We’ve asked to be placed in the system as a back-up so that if that rescue falls through, we can go back to get him. We’ll send another update if anything changes. – Team CalWEAR

Hello, friends of CalWEAR! Happy 2017. Checking in to let you know that we are aware of Rymer in Las Vegas and will be working on him this morning. Shelter opens at 11:00 AM. We have a volunteer to help in LV. Updates to follow. Thanks! – Team CalWEAR

Suspected Weimaraner at Devore Shelter

November 19, 2016 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

Friends of CalWEAR: Thank you for alerting us about the possible Weim at the Devore Shelter (part of a 55 dog raid). We swung by and saw him today. In person, he’s brown, has a longer coat, and a thick, curly tail. We think he’s a chocolate Labrador (there were many others that came in with him), so we’re hoping he either gets scooped up by a family when he becomes available, or a lab rescue calls for him. Onward to the next Weimaraner who needs us. Thanks again for looking out! – Team CalWEAR
